Tango Fantasía Artist in Residency
— Frequently Asked Questions
1. Which is the difference between Program A & Program B?
Program A – Argentine Tango Immersion
This stream welcomes dancers of all levels who wish to deepen their understanding of Argentine tango. The emphasis is on:
- strong foundations
- quality of movement
- precision and musicality
- understanding the evolution of tango
- methods for continuous artistic development
Rather than learning as many figures as possible, each weekly theme is explored progressively over three sessions—from essential principles to refined application.
Program B – Tango Fantasía Creation Lab
Program B is intended for dancers who enjoy artistic exploration and creative challenges. During the residency, our guest artist Maestro Alejandro Aquino will share
- the traditional vocabulary of Tango Fantasía,
- the elegance of high-quality Tango Salón,
- the creative principles behind this unique artistic language.
- Participants will explore movement quality, interpretation, improvisation, and creative development through an intensive collaborative process.
The concluding sharing or presentation is entirely optional. Many participants simply choose to enjoy the creative journey without appearing in the final presentation. Whether or not you perform, this experience has the potential to transform your dancing.

5. What if I am away and have to miss some sessions?
We understand that summer travel may make it difficult to attend every session. Full-program participants who miss sessions while away may receive complimentary semi-private make-up sessions covering the essential material they missed, subject to scheduling availability.
6. Student Support
To encourage the next generation of artists, full-time students receive 50% off support and NBS classmates receive 30% off support on top of existing discount.
7. Accessibility
We believe authentic artistic learning should be accessible whenever possible. If financial circumstances would prevent you from participating, please contact us privately. Depending on individual situations, we may be able to offer special residency support, volunteer energy exchange opportunities, or other forms of assistance.
8. Why an Artist Residency? Many people have asked why this program is organized as a five-week Artist Residency?
Around the world, artist residencies are widely recognized as a way of supporting cultural exchange, artistic research, and long-term creative development. Rather than offering a brief introduction, a residency allows artists and participants to spend meaningful time together, sharing knowledge, artistic traditions, creative processes, and cultural perspectives through continuous exploration.
This residency has been designed to create exactly that kind of environment. Through five weeks of shared artistic practice, participants have the opportunity to revisit ideas, deepen their understanding, and experience Argentine tango as a living cultural tradition.
9. Our Intention
Hosting an internationally respected Argentine tango artist in Toronto for five weeks represents a significant commitment of time, resources, and community support.
This residency has been created not as a commercial venture, but as a cultural exchange that allows our community to learn directly from one of the great living representatives of Argentine Tango—particularly in the traditions of Tango Salón and Tango Fantasía.
Our hope is simply to make this rare artistic experience available to as many passionate dancers as possible while honouring the depth, history, and living tradition of Argentine tango.
